All in the Family!
Jessica had reached out to me in mid April to schedule an extended family session that would include her parents, her brother and his family, and her sister and her family. The session would be a birthday present for her mother.
We blocked a morning at the end of August at one of my favorite locations, Colonial Park in NJ.
A few weeks prior to the session, Debbie, Jessica’s mother, called me to touch base regarding the session. We talked about outfit selection and Debbie expressed to me that she prefers candid and fun pictures over ones that are posed. I told her not to worry.
The day of the session arrived. I had moved from NJ a just a month prior and I hadn’t photographed at the park for a while, so during my morning walk through of the park, I decided to take a look at the location from a different perspective – trying to find new spots or different angles that I hadn’t used in the past. I found a few perfect ones!
I approached the session as I do any other extended family session – making sure that I capture all of the family groupings as well as individual shots of all of the kids and couples – with a big emphasis on candid fun. There was even one point where I told all of the boys to run through the field as I was running after them and around them to capture those pure kid joy moments – lets just say that I got my exercise that morning!
My favorite part of this session was receiving a call from Debbie after I had delivered the online proofing gallery to her. She was thrilled with the images and couldn’t thank me enough for capturing her family.
Happy Birthday, Debbie!
